About Us

Andy is a Multi Award winning product and furniture designer based in Glasgow. Originally from Glasgow, Andy studied Consumer Product Design at Edinburgh Napier University and then a Masters in Interdisciplinary Design at Edinburgh Napier University, returning to Glasgow in 2012.

Andy was identified as a star of the future after winning first prize at the D&AD awards, the Oscars of the Design industry for Product Design – Furniture in July 2009 and in March 2011 was honoured with the prestigious John Logie Baird Young Innovator of the Year award.

After launching the D&AD award winning furniture Sea Defence during London Design Festival 2010 Andy has continued to explore pushing the boundaries of traditional and modern materials and manufacturing techniques in new additions to the collection.

The SD2.0 Shelves are a revised design of the original Sea Defence Shelves but now pushing the strengths and weight of sheet metal in a striking collection of colours.

Andy’s Sea Defence light which has been a huge success since its launch at New Designers OYO 2010 is now joined by the SD2.0 Light a new lightweight design using innovatively bent wood.

In addition Andy has been exploring new household products in his fun and quirky “FlatShapes” range which includes a set of 4 egg cups that together spell out EGGS, a desk tidy and post-it note holder and book ends which all come flat in a brushed stainless steel finish designed to be bent to shape easily by the customer.

In January 2010, not being content with winning the leading student design award Andy went on to research and explore the recession from a design perspective launching his “Made By” book “An inspiration to make things” which demonstrates through beautiful photographs, simple diagrams and a step by step guide, how to make a collection of personal everyday items from the humble tea towel and cheap fabric glue.

Andy, originally from Glasgow, graduated from the Product Design course at Edinburgh Napier University, and as the recession hit the industry and jobs, Andy returned to study a Masters in Interdisciplinary Design at Edinburgh Napier University a global problem that went on to inspire his work. In April 2009 he was one of just 15 students from the whole of the UK picked to exhibit at the Ideal Home Show 2009. He featured his ‘Kitchen Toolbox’ range of clever yet stylish cutlery that couples as essential DIY tools; due to launch in 2012 is a redesigned version of the toolkit all innovatively designed into a spatula.
